IF YOU'VE BEEN IN A WRECK....DO THESE THINGS NOW, NOW, NOW!!!!! CALL 911. Get help. Make sure you are safe and not at immediate risk physically. The health and safety of you and your family are first priority. Find witnesses to the wreck immediately. Get their names, phone numbers and email addresses. If you are able, RECORD THEM on your phone saying what they saw, who was at fault in causing the wreck and have them state the date, time, their name, address and telephone numbers. Get tons of pictures of the wrecked vehicles, of the scene before they are moved, get pictures of folks being treated by EMT's, photos of the jaws of life being used and of any obvious injuries. (USE YOUR FLASH IF AT NIGHT). Take the photos in a 360 degree view. Take pictures up close of the cars, then back up and take them further back as you walk around the wrecked cars in a circle. Get video of the same things if you can. BE SAFE. Don't get in the way of oncoming traffic. If you can get a picture or video of the other people involved, great but be safe and don't get into a fight. Take a picture of the bad guys insurance card but...write down or record the information too just in case. If the bad guy doesn't own the car, get BOTH the insurance card for the driver and the insurance card for the owner of the car. IF the bad guy is talking and saying it's all their fault, GREAT, see if you can record it or if you can have the witnesses say what they heard. IF the other driver is drunk and you are safe....VIDEO the drunken behavior of the other driver. If you can get audio of the drunk too...even better but...stay safe. You may be in shock, if you aren't sure if you are injured DO NOT say you are not injured. Give your body time to tell you what's happening with it. If you are really injured, don't be a hero...get help. If you are hurt but you don't go to the doctor soon after the wreck, the insurance weasels will call you a liar for saying later that you were hurt in the wreck. The insurance company will then say you weren't hurt at all and they won't pay one red cent for the injuries the other driver just caused you. GET ALL OF YOUR VALUABLES OUT OF THE CAR BEFORE IT'S TOWED. Things disappear all the time. If you can't get your valuables out immediately, get them out as soon as you can. Trust me on this. Take pictures of any of your property that was damaged in the wreck while those items are still in the car. Insurance companies refuse to pay for property lost or damaged in a wreck if they can avoid it by saying the items weren't in the car at the time of the wreck.
